"I Hear Your Voice"
Poem
Written by Bob Moore
November 23, 1997

I heard Your Voice again today
As Your wild geese flew along their way
As countless numbers have gone before
Scores uncounted toward the shore.

Your Voice is heard in their plaintiff cry
As I bend my neck toward the sky
Wonder and beauty is in their hymn
Heard through centuries praising Him.

Why is my heart so stirred to tears
By this song that is heard through all the years?
What makes me sense the subtle touch
Of their kindred spirit that says so much
To us who long like them to be
In the peace of Your Serenity;
Among like spirits who sing their song
That tells us each that we each belong
To You Great Conductor Who reigns within
From Your Word, the Source where Love begins.

So on this Feast of Christ the King
You've shown me again that You're my Everything!
Your Kingship reigns over all the skies
On the earth, the sea and in the eyes
Of all who have heard Your Voice so long
Of all who respond to Your Nature's Song.

So lead me now as you do them
Towards the peace given by Him.
To love and to serve one another
With man and nature entwined together.
Reflecting not as hapless minions
But as precious pieces of Your Dominion
That covers all the earth and sky
All empowered by Your Watchful Eye.

"I Hear Your Voice"
Story
Written by Bob Moore
November 23, 1997

The preamble to the poem "I Hear Your Voice" (11/23/97) began with joyful celebrations at my BSF Leader's home (Larry Campbell) and then to my grandson "Jacob's"first birthday on Saturday evening along with my children Janis, David, Kelly, Gregg, my grandaughter Sara, my son-in-law Gabe and other family members.

Sunday morning, after completing my prayers and meditation, and after reading the enclosed GOSPEL of JOHN 18:33-37 in celebration of "THE FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING", I walked outside the back door just to look upwards at the early morning sky.  The last words of our Lord in John's Gospel were:  "Anyone committed to the truth hears my voice."

I was looking over a parking lot in the apartment units where my wife lives and heard the voice of geese.  I could hear their voice, but they were so high, that it took me a few moments to spot them.  They were flying at an altitude of at least 1000 feet and making that beautiful sound that stirs the soul of those who enjoy nature.

I rushed inside to get Linda Lee to observe and to listen to them with me.  We stood there together.  It was beautiful.  Then I went inside to do some chores and then went back out in a few moments and there was a second flock headed towards me and also going in a southeast direction over the apartments.  No matter how many times I've heard them in the past, since I was a boy, it's always thrilling and exciting for me to hear their beautiful cries and to see them working so diligently to maintain their "V" "Formation".

I went back inside and did a little more reading.  Then I went out the front door with our Golden Retriever Lindsay to give her another early morning workout with the tennis ball.

As I lined up to throw the ball for her, I noticed this white goose feather that had apparently fallen from the geese and had drifted down to the spot near where I was standing.  Lindsey ran over to smell it and I was able to keep her from licking it.  When I picked it up, I thought of the movie "Forest Gump" and how it began and ended with a feather floating down, indicating that angels and His Divine Presence was with him.

I was really touched as Lindsay went over to smell the feather and to pick it up.  I stopped her just in time and raced to it and stood there amazed at what I would have in the past called a mere "coincidence."  Here I am standing in the center of 2,000 apartments on Westheimer Avenue in Houston, Texas and I pick up a feather that fell off of one of those beautiful birds which had just flown overhead a few minutes earlier.

Needless to say, I was more than touched.  I felt that God was responding to the passion and the energy which I felt when I had heard their call overhead just a few minutes before.  It reminded me so much of the many days and hours spent through the years in the marshes, hunting and preparing to hunt those lovely creatures and eventually, laying down my gun and shooting at them with only a camera.

When I went inside to sit down, I said out loud "I Hear Your Voice".  I immediately picked up a pen and started writing the enclosed poem.  It amazed me how freely it flowed and how the words came together with little or no effort.  I have not done that since I was a boy in high school.

Thank you Lord!  You are so good to me!  With love, Bob
